Countdown to Our First Adventure Race (Update 2)

Prepping for my first Adventure Race Ever a 200 mile, 72 hour Race the Fat Otter Raid

Update April 29

I got a mountain bike, that will really help for the Adventure Race
Will still does not have one.
Steve again is getting ready to do a mountain bike race this weekend.

I got a new rare earth magnet compass, nice, it is really fast with no bouncing around. I did not even know they made them. All those years in the Army carrying that green compass.
I got a Salomon 300 backpack, 1800ci only 1 lb 6 oz, nice.
I ordered my map board the Axis 360 for the mountain bike, now I will be able to navigate on the go on a bike.
I got a throw rope for the boat, I had to look up what a throw rope was, haha
I got a 30 liter sea to summit water proof bag for that only weighs less then 4 oz, again nice.
I also got a Princton EOS bike light that will run 121 hours on 3 AAA batteries, this will be my back up, it will go on the bike, helmet, or head all adapters come with it. I think I will get another one so I will use it for the both the bike and helmet.

I still need a personal flotation device level III, now worries that is easy.
I still need a rain jack and fleece shirt.
I still need bike gloves.
I also need a 2 inch pulley, I am not sure why we will need 2 inch pulley compared to a small climbing pulley.

Last week I rode to work and back four times putting me at 80 miles on the bike. I also ran O course another 7 mile and I decided it would be a good idea to kayak at least once before we got to the race. Will and I did 8 miles in our first kayak ride. It was funny, the first 1/2 mile we did not put the Rutter down. Apparently if the boat/kayak comes with a Rutter you should use it if you ever want to steer anywhere. For a total of almost 100 miles in one week, but a total of 9 hours only of actually moving. Now I will have to do 200 miles in 72 hours, by my calculations I should be done with the three day race in 18 hours, haha. RIGHT???

Will started riding to and from work this week also, 40 miles one way. WOW, except he rides at 23 miles an hour so he is fast.

Good news, we have a female that will race with us if we can not find one. She actually race on the Fat Otter team which is who’s Adventure Race is going.

We are excited and in great spirits as we prepare for the race, we are very excited.

Check back next week to see how our spirits as we close on three weeks until race start.

Keep checking back to see our crazy adventure as we count down to our first Adventure Race.
