Ok, so I got a flat tire and bought a new tube. Easy enough, take the tire off, replace the tube and put air in. I quickly switched out the tube and began to fill the tube with air to 85psi. Yes I checked the tire pressure on the side of the tire. Everything was going good, as I pumped up the tube, the last 5psi is always the hardest.
Apparently you are suppose to seat the tire in the rim once you put a little air in it. I knew this and thought I had done a fair job. As I pumped up the tire everything was going fine until I reached 85psi, then BOOOM! The tube exploded and blew the tire right of the rim. After dropping everything and walking out of the garage, I came back a little while later to examine the mess.
There was a 1 foot long gash in the tube, but everything else was ok. Lesson learned make sure you seat your tire good before you fill up the tube with air. The last place you want this to happen is in the middle of the race and you only have one spare tube.
