22May2010 Great Mississippi River Adventure Series (GMRAS)
Maquoketa, Iowa
This years race will be held in Jackson county in and around the city of Maquoketa (pronounced muh-COKE-it-uh). Maquoketa derives from the Native American word meaning “bear river”. The area is home to the Maquoketa Caves State Park which is located a few miles northwest of the city. The park contains more caves than any other state park in Iowa. Gmras has been held here before and the area will put up a challenge to all racers.
The race will be a 12 hour Supported race. Disciplines will include orienteering, biking, paddling, a repel, and a mystery event. You will see you support crew at least 2 times thought the race where you will be switching disciplines. The paddle will cover 10 – 12 miles, the biking will be between 40 – 50 miles, and the orienteering will cover between 10 – 15 miles. The race will start early in the morning (time will be announced later) and we hope for a good day of racing.
Do not forget to come support On Point Foundation “ImONPoint.org” Athletes as they race around the USA for disabled service members.
